Atlan Collected Data

This page lists what Sifflet imports from Atlan and where it appears in Sifflet.

Imported Assets

Sifflet doesn't create new assets from Atlan. For each Atlan connection mapped to a Sifflet source, Sifflet reads the Atlan tables and views of that connection, and attaches their metadata to the matching assets of the Sifflet source. Sifflet matches assets by database, schema, and table name.

Atlan metadata is only imported for Sifflet sources of these types: Amazon Athena, Google BigQuery, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake.

Collected Metadata

For each table and view, Sifflet imports the metadata you select in the source configuration:

Sifflet also stores a link to each asset in Atlan, used by the Open in Atlan button on asset pages.

Metadata imported from Atlan is external metadata: you can't edit it in Sifflet, because Atlan remains the source of truth. To change it, update it in Atlan: Sifflet reflects the change after the next run.

Where Atlan Metadata Appears

Asset pages: imported metadata appears on the asset page, with an Open in Atlan button when the asset is linked to Atlan.
Data Catalog filters: metadata with Show in filter enabled appears as filters in the Data Catalog. Atlan tags appear in the Tags filter together with Sifflet tags, with no separate Atlan Tags section.

Lineage

The Atlan integration doesn't import lineage. Sifflet builds lineage from your data platforms, pipelines, and BI tools.

Data Freshness

Sifflet refreshes Atlan metadata on the source's schedule. See Integrations Management for default frequencies and scheduling.

Limitations

Sifflet only imports metadata on tables and views. Metadata on columns and other Atlan asset types isn't imported.
Metadata is only imported for Atlan connections mapped to a Sifflet source of a supported type.

Data Exposure

Sifflet only reads metadata from Atlan: it never reads row-level data through Atlan. See Security for more details on the data Sifflet stores.
