What's a BI tool?

Business Intelligence (BI) tools are the components within your data architecture that allow you to interact with your data visually (via capabilities like charts and reports) to generate insights and perform analytics.

Why connect Sifflet to your BI tool(s)?

Integrating Sifflet with your BI tool allows you to:

  • Access the upstream lineage of your BI assets to evaluate the impact of data incidents and determine the quality of the data/metrics in the BI layer.
  • Catalog your different assets (dashboards, charts, etc.) and access various metadata retrieved from your BI system and enriched in Sifflet (owners, descriptions, tags, etc.).
  • Have real-time access to the impact of data incidents on a given BI asset without leaving your BI tool, thanks to the Sifflet Insights Chrome Extension.

BI tools default refresh frequency

By default, Sifflet performs a weekly metadata refresh for BI sources. This accommodates the slower rate of asset changes compared to other sources, reducing the likelihood of exceeding API quotas.
